DESKTOP PUBLISHING EDITOR This is a mid-level position supporting the Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The incumbent will work energetically to provide professional desktop publishing editor support to a wide spectrum of DTRA offices and Civilian Government and Military managerial personnel. This is a contingent hire position based upon successful contract award. Depending upon assignment within the Agency, a SECRET or TOP SECRET clearance is required. Position Responsibilities: The successful candidate will be a PowerPoint/graphics specialist that has full knowledge and skills in Microsoft PowerPoint and commercial off-the-shelf desktop publishing software that can produce briefings/documents in accordance with DTRA policies. Incumbents will create documents and review them for accuracy and content from a technical perspective. To adequately support the offices involved, extensive interpretation of DTRA and DoD instructions and manuals are required. Many of these guidelines are incomplete and/or contradictory and are frequently being revised and reinterpreted. The successful candidate must use judgment and ingenuity to interpret the meaning of available guidelines and provide guidance where no guidelines exist. Duties/Tasks and Responsibilities: • Ensure that each briefing/presentation conforms to DoD and DTRA policy in presentations, content and legal requirements. • Perform integrity edits to ensure that presentations are consistently prepared. Ensure that references to figures, tables, sections, part numbers, product numbers, and other documents are correct, and that all referenced items exist. • Complete format edits to ensure presentations conform to DTRA standards on typography, layout and illustrations. • Perform style edits to ensure compliance with DoD and DTRA standards for capitalization, hyphenation, and the use of symbols, bibliographic references, italics, and bold type. • Perform copy clarification edits to ensure that spelling, grammar, punctuation are correct; that incomprehensible statements resulting from missing material are identified and clarified; that illustrations are correctly inserted; and that mathematical equations are correctly typeset. • Make language edits to ensure that sentence complexity is appropriate for the document; that active and passive verbs are appropriately used; that ideas are presented in a clear and logical manner; and that the use of jargon and technical terms are appropriate for the intended use. • Complete substantive edits to ensure that all components of the document fit together as a coherent whole; that the order of presentation is logical; and that all necessary information is included, and all unnecessary information is completed. |

Skills/Experience Required: 1. Extensive knowledge and expertise in Microsoft PowerPoint and Desktop publishing software. 2. Good communication skills (verbal and computer). 3. Ability to effectively plan, organize and execute assignments. 4. Ability to complete tasks in a timely manner and with minimal oversight. 5. Extensive knowledge of technical editing and analysis techniques. 6. DTRA experience and knowledge of DTRA and DoD presentation policies is highly desired. 7. Experience and knowledge of military customs, courtesies, decorum, and policies is desired. |
