Deciphering codes, analyzing patterns, and decrypting data are some of the deeply challenging cryptology jobs that people working as cryptologists or cryptographers who hold security clearances with either the Intelligence Agency or Department of Defense are faced with. But despite the challenges, cryptology is one of the most rewarding and exciting jobs, especially for those who are looking to contribute to the safety of the entire nation.
The Department of Defense (DoD) has a long and rich history of success in cryptography. Over the years, the National Security Administration (NSA) and the US Navy have employed cryptology as an effective means of accurately identifying and deterring internal and external threats.
Personnel holding security clearance working on cryptology jobs may be deployed within the U.S. Navy as Cryptologic Technicians Interpretive (CTI), or Navy Linguists. They may also work within the National Security Agency (NSA).
Qualified individuals for cryptology jobs are expected to be detail-oriented and highly skilled. They will go through intensive training in foreign languages to equip them with skills necessary for translating, interpreting, and transcribing foreign language communications.
Becoming cryptology personnel requires a bachelor's degree in any of the following:
- Mathematics
- Foreign languages
- Engineering
- Computer science
- Computer programming
- International relations
Individuals with confidential, secret, top secret, ts/ssci and polygraph security clearance are invited to register for cleared jobs in the Cryptology field today.
