Northrop Grumman Mission Systems is seeking a System Administrator in Rome, NY supporting a cutting edge environment to transition Science & Technology capabilities. These will be relative to the development and integration of leading edge Department of Defense (DoD)/U.S. Air Force (USAF) intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) collection, processing, exploitation, analysis and dissemination capabilities.

The Systems Administrator will work as member of a tightly integrated team to design, develop, implement, and maintain applications. Will develop detailed system configurations; and perform system administration, engineering and integration activities within an agile development process.
The Systems Administrator will maintain smooth operation of multi-user computer systems, including coordination with users and developers. Evaluate vendor products, coordinate installation and provide backup recovery. Set up administrator and service accounts, maintain system documentation, tune system performance, install system wide software and allocate mass storage space.
The successful candidate will work in a fast-paced environment, think independently and overcome technical challenges as part of a multidisciplinary engineering team. He/she will be capable of independently determining and developing technical approaches. Will have excellent communication skills, the ability to interact with the customer, and provide team leadership. Travel between 10-20% may be required.

This requisition may be filled at a higher grade based on qualifications listed below.

This requisition may be filled as either aSystems Administrator or aPrincipal Systems Administrator based on the qualifications below.

Basic Qualifications for a Systems Administrator:

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related degree plus3 years of relevant experience; or a Master's degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related degree plus1 year of relevant experience; or7 years of relevant experience without a degree.
  • Experience with Linux or Windows server operating systems.
  • Experience with one or more of the following: system administration and configuring networking; VM; system and software installation; user management; and/or system configuration.
  • Ability toauthor technical documentation, such as use cases, software architectures, system design documents, user manuals, etc.
  • Current, active Department of Defense (DoD) Secret clearance, or higher.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain DoD 8570 Certification for IAT Level II or higher within a reasonable timeframe from start date. (reference: http://iase.disa.mil/iawip/Pages/iabaseline.aspx for list of qualified certifications)

Preferred Qualifications for both levels:

  • Active Top Secret clearance

  • Experience in a Scrum environment with test driven development

  • Experience interacting and integrating systems that collect, process and exploit USAF, U.S. DoD and allied/coalition data feeds, data bases and intelligence sources to include: imagery, video, electronic/signals intelligence, cyber intelligence and other forms of geographically and temporally registered data

  • Experience defining experimentation/capability evaluation plans

  • Experience with database management systems, big data architectures and analytic techniques

  • Experience with security engineering, public key infrastructure (PKI) and certification and accreditation (C&A) of DoD systems in accordance with DIACAP/DoD 8500

  • Security+ certification
