Northrop Grumman Mission Systems is looking for an experienced Mission System Engineer for our Baltimore, MD team.

This position will support the direction and priority of new concepts and evaluate the applicability of key technologies within the Northrop Grumman Corporation Mission Systems Sector Space ISR Systems Division and will report to the Mission Solutions- Space Department. This role is focused on integrating key payload and ground processing technologies into the technical design solutions and architectures for current and adjacent business opportunities and be responsible for creating and implementing the overall technology solution strategies. Selected candidate will be focused on the activities to develop key technologies, integrate and shape solutions for Space Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance System Division and will support the creation of new strategies to win and execute future development programs.

The selected candidate must have an understanding of the integration of technologies, have a systems-of-systems engineering approach to develop derived requirements during early stages of development, have a solid understanding of sensor design and technologies, and mission performance assessment. The candidate will perform technical planning, concept and requirements development, systems engineering leadership, make-or-buy decisions, verification and validation, cost and risk analysis, execute work packages, and assessment of effectiveness.

The selected candidate will have definitive technical authority for all aspects of program System Engineering responsibilities and leads a multi disciplined engineering team managing the technical performance of the program meeting cost and schedule requirements including subcontracted elements. Coordinates requirements development, hardware/software design, verification, and validation activities. Ensures that the program is adhering to sound

engineering processes in the development, production, test and sustainment of products for our customers and is compliance with company policies, procedures, and quality standards. Maintains cognizance over technical activities within program IPTs and ensures horizontal integration of the best engineering practices across the company. Continually coordinates with the systems engineering and program integration team (PIT) leader to ensure the execution of program statement of work and baselines and serves as the technical point of contact with the customer.

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Provides oral and written communications on status and issues to client and NG Management team
  • Must be able to generate and evaluate Systems Engineering inputs to proposals in support of space business area
  • Assists PMs with schedule and technical performance of projects and provides expertise regarding project documentation requirements; monitors adherence to project plans and schedules' performance.
  • Demonstrate strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate technical topics to management and non-technical audiences, as well as interface with the customer on a daily basis
  • Reviews status of projects and budgets; manages schedules and prepares status reports
  • Ensures that all applicable corporate policies and procedures are followed throughout product team
  • Proactively improves processes
  • Presents status reports, meeting minutes, etc. at meetings and deliver on action items
  • Must be able to establish and maintain effective customer communication.
  • The successful candidate must be able to work from top-level system requirements to define and organize the detailed tasks/schedule/skills required to meet the requirements within cost and schedule constraints.
Basic Qualifications:
  • 9 Years with Bachelors in Science; 7 Years with Masters; 4 Years with PhD with 2 years of technical project lead experience leading high performance teams and managing multiple priorities with cost and schedule responsibilities.
  • Previous experience with leading technical teams for 10 or more employees or contractors
  • Experience with MS Excel, MS Project, ClearCase, ClearQuest
  • Must have active Top Secret clearance

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master of Science in System Engineering or Technical Management
  • Active SCI security clearance with counterintelligence polygraph
  • Experience in: Active or Passive RF systems, Electro Optical, Multi-Function Solutions, Space Resiliency Solutions, Tech Demonstrations, Multi-Int Sensing, End-to-End Systems development and implementation for Space Applications
