Northrop Grumman's Navigation and Maritime Systems Division (N&MSD) Maritime Systems Business Unit (MSBU) requires a senior business development manager for future maritime platforms. The successful candidate will have responsibility for the development and execution of cross-business unit/operating unit growth campaigns associated with emerging Navy, Coast Guard, and international maritime platform opportunities.
This position will report to the Director, Business Development of Maritime Systems business unit within N&MSD. This position will involve working with Business Development department personnel at all Maritime Systems locations (primarily: Charlottesville, VA, Sykesville, MD, Ocean Springs, MS, Bethpage, NY, Baltimore, MD, San Diego, CA) and will include significant travel. The position requires relationship management with N&MSD business unit leadership, strategy and business development personnel.
Responsibilities include:
  • Developing strategies to shape requirements and acquisition strategies related to manned and unmanned maritime platforms.
  • Developing investment strategies that support strategic objectives
  • Manage the business acquisition processes (BAP)
  • Identify and target new business markets and partnerships to create value growth
  • Achieve acquisition and sales goals
  • Build and develop sustained customer relationships
  • Support current program advocacy with Program Offices, Resource Sponsors and Congressional staff
  • Develop, schedule and facilitate customer contact plans and influence maps
  • Develop and implement internal and external communication plans
  • Interface to sector and corporate business development and strategy organizations
  • Develop and execute trade show activities
Travel: be willing to travel up to 50% of the time
Basic Qualifications:
  • Seven (7) years relevant experience with a thorough knowledge/understanding of business development and strategic planning processes as well as DOD requirements and programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and lead teams in developing and implementing business development campaigns and customer engagements.
  • Proven ability to establish and maintain highly effective internal and external relationships.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills required including the ability to present and articulate issues, strategies and solutions to senior customers and Northrop's senior management team.
  • Knowledge of the Navy and/or DOD requirements development, budgeting and acquisition process. Understanding the Congressional budgeting cycle and OPNAV / OSD organizations.
  • Technical Bachelor's degree is required and the candidate must be a US citizen with the ability to obtain a Secret Clearance.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Ten (10) years relevant experience with a thorough knowledge/understanding of business development and strategic planning processes as well as DOD and US Navy needs and requirements.
  • Knowledge and understanding of US Navy customer requirements generation and mission concepts of operations.
  • Experience in the Navy requirements development, budgeting and acquisition process.
  • Working level experience in the Congressional budgeting cycle and OPNAV / OSD operations.
  • Understanding of operational employment of key weapons system used by the United States Navy.
  • Broad network of key officers in the Navy operational, requirements, and acquisition organizations.
  • Contacts and knowledge within the Department of Defense including OPNAV, PEO(IWS), PEO(SHIPS), PEO(USC), PEO(C4I), NAVSEA, NIPO, and US Coast Guard.
  • Understanding of the US Shipyard ecosystem of companies.
  • Active US clearance of Secret or greater.
  • Technical undergraduate degree with an MBA.
