Northrop Grumman Mission Systems sector is seeking an experienced Software Engineer to join our diverse team, working on Restricted Program in software development.


This position will be located in Redondo Beach, CA.



As a Staff Software Engineer, the individual will plan for each phase of the project with the different project disciplines: System Engineering, Software Development, Integration, Test, and Logistics. In this role, the individual will work with Mission Assurance, Safety, and Information Assurance to implement quality control checks, ensure the safety, effectiveness, and reliability of the system.


Responsibilities will include evaluation of costs, considering trade-offs between resources, communicating with stakeholders, customers, and management, resolving tasking conflicts between interdisciplinary team members, coordinating activities of definition and configuration control, and verifying availability and suitability of technologies to assure development of the project. The position requires strong foundational background in computer science, mission planning, as well as experience with various development languages and environments.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM) discipline with 14 years of software engineering experience; Master's degree in a STEM discipline with 12 years of software engineering experience
  • Experience developing enterprise solutions in Java
  • Experience in one or more of the following is required: object oriented programming, design patterns, middleware technologies (e.g., DDS, ActiveMQ), application servers (e.g., GlassFish, WebLogic, JBoss, etc), data grid technologies.
  • Experience required with integrating software from third party sources
  • Familiar with Agile software development practices
  • Active Top Secret security clearance with ability to obtain special program access by start date

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with NASA World Wind, JavaFX, JMS and SOAP.
  • Experience with Mission Planning and/or Command and Control (C2).
  • Experience with UI development using HTML, Spring Web Flow, JSF, and RichFaces
  • Experience desired in, Hibernate, Spring, continuous integration, EJBs, or JAXB, and/or data transfer technologies (e.g., UDT, FFT, etc).
