Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems is seeking a highly qualified, mission oriented Director Programs 2, NGP Mission Payload IPT Lead for our Redondo Beach, CA location.

A Missile Warning system resilient to modern threats - the USAF views Next Gen Overhead Persistent InfraRed (OPIR) as the #1 space priority, and Next Generation OPIR Polar (NGP) re-establishes NGAS as a major prime contractor for SMC. NGP represents a unique strategic opportunity as a new start, a sole source franchise program chartered to design and deliver two polar space vehicles critical to our National Security. As a Section 804 program, Next Gen OPIR is an exemplar of rapid acquisition for space programs as SMC aims to deliver critical resilient capabilities to the warfighter.

NGP OPIR Mission Payload (MPL) IPT Lead will be responsible for all aspects of design, development, production, integration, test, and verification of the primary mission payload over the lifecycle of the program.

The NGP Mission Payload IPT Lead responsibilities include:
  • OPIR Mission Payload IPT strategy and execution (cost, schedule, technical, quality)
  • Successful execution of the MPL competition (make/buy) in alignment with NGP OCI plan to deliver best value
  • Collaboration with NGP and functional leaders to develop and nurture a highly competent and engaged team that delivers on commitments and embodies "best culture"
  • Support to broad strategic initiatives (e.g. OPIR architecture, R&D investments, industrial benchmarking)
The position reports directly to the NGP VP and Program Manager. Effective communication and excellent leadership characteristics are essential.


Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM)
  • 10 years of experience in IPT/program management
  • Demonstrated ability to create trusted relationships with customers
  • Demonstrated ability to lead complex programs comprised of engineering, business, contracts, law, supply chain, production and mission/quality assurance disciplines
  • Team leadership experience
  • Must have an active and current Top Secret clearance and SCI

Preferred Qualifications:
  • MS Engineering or MBA
  • Experience with related technologies, payloads, providers, and mission applications
  • Leadership experience with new start activities and effective change management
