Principal Software Engineer

Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems has an opening for a Principal Software Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals supporting the Manned C2/ISR programs located in Melbourne, Florida.

Responsibilities will include design, development, test, integration and deployment of software services. This will include deploying, automating, maintaining, troubleshooting and improving the systems and software infrastructure. The role requires you to have hands on technical experience and a can do approach towards environment automation and management along with continuous improvements. You will be a team member working in agile development process. You will be responsible for the design and implementation of application builds, releases, deployment along with configuration activities. Your responsibilities will include working with internal business partners to gather requirements, prototyping, and architecting complex solutions supporting the building and test plan execution, performing quality reviews and fixing operational issues.

  • Assist with the integration, troubleshooting and testing of implemented software changes.
  • Take ownership of ambiguous hard problems and drive them to solutions, while working in a team environment.
  • Critical that you understand the software development life cycle and have an in-depth knowledge of automated testing to facilitate and analyze large data sets.
  • Develop, modify and maintain customized or standardized applications and services, using software engineering best practices and standards.
  • Participate in the full life-cycle of software development, to include requirements development, modeling and design, application development, unit to CSCI testing, integration, formal system testing, release, installation, and maintenance.
  • Apply technical expertise in solving complex problems.
  • Interact with Program Management, external suppliers and/or government customers.
  • A Solid experience in Java, object oriented analysis and design, in Windows and/or Linux environment is required.

At minimum a DoD Interim Secret clearance is required to start however, this position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a full DoD Secret level clearance.

Qualifications:

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in a (STEM) Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics discipline from an accredited university and 5 years of software engineering experience
  • OR a Master's Degree in a (STEM) Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics discipline from an accredited university and 3 years of experience in software engineering OR
  • PhD in a (STEM) Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics discipline from an accredited university and 0 years of experience in software engineering
  • Experience developing software / writing code in Java or C++
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD secret security clearance (Must have at minimum an interim DoD secret clearance to start)


Preferred Qualifications:

  • RHEL (Red Hat Enterprise Linux) or Microsoft Windows development experience Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or Electrical Engineering
  • Experience with configuration management using industry standard tools and processes
  • Eclipse or other integrated development environment (IDE)
  • Familiarity with Atlassian tool suite
  • Experience with Open Mission Systems (OMS)
  • Knowledge of Linux systems with basic commands
  • Experience with Agile software development
  • DOORS (Requirements Tool)
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal skills, and the ability to interface with all levels of employees and management
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and Strong interpersonal skills
