Principal Cyber Software Engineer

Northrop Grumman is seeking a qualified principal cyber software professional for an established major simulation training network that provides daily training opportunities for the Warfighter. The position may require travel to CONUS and international sites as required.

• Providing support for development, testing and enhancement of security engineering inputs to program documentation, Security Authorization packages, and Research & Development reports
• Providing input to, and interface in customer meetings, or providing status input to higher level management
• Design and implement technical solutions with custom software requirements.
• Upgrade and maintain an existing software baseline.
• Automate and improve the software build system (Jenkins).
• Write and modify SELinux Policies.
• Working in an agile team environment.

The ideal candidate will have direct work experience in the activities listed above. They must have a broad knowledge of IT systems, the impacts of system hardening on those systems, and experience diagnosing and resolving issues caused by the system hardening. The ideal candidate should be comfortable interacting with other cyber functional areas, and internal company management and executives. The candidate must be willing to travel domestically and internationally if required.



  • Principal Cyber Software Engineer: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related discipline with 5 years of experience / 3 years with Masters

Basic Qualifications:

  • Active Secret DoD security clearance and able to achieve Tier 1 access eligibility/US Citizenship is required
  • Strong troubleshooting skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficiency with one or more Scripting Languages (i.e. Bash, Expect/TCL, PowerShell, Python)
  • Proficiency with JAVA, C++, Maven, Ant, and GIT.
  • Demonstrated experience configuring Linux operating systems and applications
  • Demonstrated experience developing on Linux operating systems.
  • Demonstrated success working individually or as part of a team requiring little supervision
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work outside of normal working hours and weekends as needed to support the customer's needs
  • Ability to function in multi-disciplinary environment
  • Good understanding of software engineering processes
  • Good understanding of Agile and Scrum practices
  • Current DoD 8570 Certification IAT Level II or higher (Security+, CISSP, etc.) or ability to obtain one within 6 months

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Active Top Secret/SCI DoD Clearance
  • Experience in a software development environment
  • Vulnerability assessment experience
  • Working knowledge of Cross Domain Solutions
  • Working knowledge of Security Enabled (SE) Linux Policy
  • Familiarity with CLIP and the Reference Policy.
  • Working knowledge of network security, web security, application security, security assessments/testing, industry and DoD security best practices
