Northrop Grumman Defense Systems Sector , with an office located in Rome, New York is currently seeking an experienced Software Engineer or Principal Software Engineer who enjoys overcoming technical challenges to join our multidisciplinary engineering team.

Central New York is a great place to live. Responsibilities:

As a software engineer, you will specify, design, develop, document, test, integrate and conduct problem resolution for scientific software. You will work with cutting edge technologies relative to the development and integration of intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) collection, processing, exploitation, analysis and dissemination capabilities.

You'll provide full life cycle support to applications software utilizing agile development methodologies for systems that collect, process and exploit intelligence data handling sources to include: imagery, video, signals intelligence, and cyber intelligence data.

You'll have the opportunity to develop new research area recommendations, perform technical assessments, and introduce solutions, products, services and best practices to fit customer needs.

Position is contingent upon award and/or funding, customer approval.


Qualifications:

This requisition may be filled as either a Software Engineer or a Principal Software Engineer based on the qualifications below.

Basic Qualifications Software Engineer:

  • Bachelor's Degree in a related STEM (science, technology, engineering or math) discipline and a minimum of 2 years of related experience; or a Master of Science degree in a STEM related discipline.
  • Current, active Department of Defense (DoD) Secret clearance, or higher.
  • Experience with Java, Java Script, HTML, XML, C/C++
  • Experience with scripting languages (Perl, Python, bash, ksh, etc.)
  • Experience developing applications for the Windows/RHEL operating systems, Basic experience administrating Windows/RHEL operating environments
  • Experience developing with an IDE (Eclipse, Netbeans)
  • Well versed in software integration practices and able to work effectively and independently to meet deadlines
  • Able to travel to support the product (10%)
  • Experience working with Git SCM

Basic Qualifications Principal Software Engineer:

  • Bachelor's Degree in a related STEM (science, technology, engineering or math) discipline and a minimum of 5 years of related experience; or a Master of Science degree in a STEM related discipline plus 3 or more years of relevant experience.
  • Current, active Department of Defense (DoD) Secret clearance, or higher.
  • Experience with Java, Java Script, HTML, XML, C/C++
  • Experience with scripting languages (Perl, Python, bash, ksh, etc.)
  • Experience developing applications for the Windows/RHEL operating systems, Basic experience administrating Windows/RHEL operating environments
  • Experience developing with an IDE (Eclipse, Netbeans)
  • Well versed in software integration practices and able to work effectively and independently to meet deadlines
  • Able to travel to support the product (10%)
  • Experience working with Git SCM

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with Global Command and Control System - Joint (GCCS-J)
  • Conceptual understanding of DevOps
  • Familiarity with Agile development methodology
  • Experience with Netbeans Rich-Client Platform (RCP) development
  • Experience developing with any number of the following technologies: Vagrant, Docker, OpenShift, Kubernetes, Web Services, Node.js
  • Experience using any number of the following tools: Jira, Bitbucket, Crucible, Confluence, Artifactory, Jenkins, Maven, Fortify
  • Experience with Information Assurance concepts and techniques to apply security requirements to application design and development
  • Experience developing Unified Modeling Language diagrams
  • Experience developing cross platform mobile applications for iOS and Android devices
  • Automated deployment technologies and strategies utilizing tools such as Ansible, Puppet, or Chef
  • Experience with cloud platforms and services such as AWS or Azure
  • Must have strong oral and written communications skills
