Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for a Principal Software Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in Melbourne, Florida.

Essential Functions:
  • Designs, develops, documents, tests, and debugs applications software and systems that contain logical and mathematical solutions
  • Conducts multidisciplinary research and collaborates with equipment designers and/or hardware engineers in the planning, design, development, and utilization of electronic data processing systems for product and commercial software
  • Determines computer user needs; analyzes system capabilities to resolve problems on program intent, output requirement, input data acquisition, programing techniques and controls
  • Prepares operating instructions
  • Designs and develops compilers and assemblers, utility programs, and operating systems
  • Ensure software standards are met
  • Develops, modifies, and maintains customized or standardized applications using software engineering best practices and standards
  • Participate in the full lifecycle of software development to include requirements development, modeling and design, application development, unit to CSCI testing, integration, formal system testing, release, installation, and maintenance
  • Interface with the customer as required

Qualifications:

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university and 5 years of experience in software engineering OR
  • Master's degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university and 3 years of experience in software engineering OR
  • PhD degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university and 0 years of experience in software engineering
  • Experience developing software/writing code in C/C++, Java, and/or other object-oriented programming languages
  • At a minimum, an active and in-scope DoD Security clearance at the interim secret level or above with the ability to obtain and maintain Program Special Access


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Accredited degree in computer engineering, computer science, or electrical engineering
  • Experience with software test
  • Familiarity with Atlassian Tool suite and tools like Git and Confluence
  • Familiarity with the Agile software development process
  • Experience with DOORS, Eclipse, or Integrated Development Environments (IDE)
  • Knowledge of Linux systems with basic commands
