Northrop Grumman Defense Systems Sector is seeking an Oracle Database Administrator to join our team of qualified individuals. The position will be located in Fairfax, VA. The qualified applicant will become part of Northrop Grumman's Defense Travel System Program (DTS). The DTS program provides travel booking, expense management, and travel data analytics to the Department of Defense (DoD). Throughout the project, the team will be working closely with the DoD customer to prioritize functionality, structure sprints, and deliver rapid iterations.

Roles and Responsibilities:
  • Maintain smooth operation of database systems in accordance with customer's security policies and directives.
  • Formulate policies, procedures, and standards relating to database management, and monitors transaction activity and utilization.
  • Tasks may include coordination with network administrators, system administrators, and other team members.
  • Provide 24x7x365 Database Administration to include backup administration, security remediation, release support, and patching.
  • Ancillary duties may include tasks such as, but not limited to:
    • setting up administrator and service accounts,
    • maintaining database documentation,
    • performance tuning of indexes and databases in general, and
    • query performance
  • Support planning, deployment, maintenance, and enhance database baseline configurations and security posture through administrative, preventive, detective, and reactive controls, such as database baseline management, change and configuration management, database roles and privilege administration and patch management.
  • Maintain technical expertise in all areas of database administration and supporting technologies and practices.
  • May propose solutions to management to ensure all database requirements are based on future needs and current usage, configuring such solutions to optimize cost savings.
  • Prepare and/or ensure that appropriate database documentation exists, including operational instructions.
  • Work independently or as a member of a team on complex tasks.


Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in a technical/IT related field and a minimum of 6 years related experience; or a Master's degree and minimum of 4 years of relevant experience.
  • Minimum of 6 years database administration experience.
  • Experience with Unix systems, to include proper environment configuration for database systems.
  • Experience performing database backups, recovery, performance tuning, and user administration.
  • Experience performing Oracle database administration (storage management, log monitoring, table maintenance).
  • US citizen and able to pass a background investigation for a Privileged (IT) position of Public Trust (post hire).
  • Must have a current Oracle certification from one or more of the following paths:
    • Oracle Database 12c Certified Associate or higher
    • Oracle Database 12c Certified Implementation Specialist - Database or Performance Tuning
    • Oracle Certified Expert - RAC/Grid, Data Guard, or Maximum Availability
    • Oracle SQL or PL/SQL Developer Certified Associate

  • Must have a current Security+ CE certification or equivalent Security certification

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, handle stressful situations, prioritize workloads and schedules, and solve problems.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage assigned tasks, interact with internal and external customers and development teams, and clearly communicate status information.
  • Experience working with and administering Oracle Enterprise Manager Cloud Control, version 12c or higher.
  • Experience with other Oracle Products such as: Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition (OBIEE), Oracle Data Integrator (ODI), Golden Gate.
  • Experience with Subversion/JIRA (on UNIX/Linux).
  • Experience with writing shell scripts in languages such as Perl and SHELL.
  • Experience installing and managing Oracle databases on Unix systems.
  • Experience with Extract, Transformation, and Load (ETL).
  • Experience with large data warehouses and supporting methodologies.
  • Experience with Oracle database security hardening and Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs).
  • Experience with Oracle database performance analysis and tuning, enhancements and corrective actions.
  • Highly driven, self-managed individual who demonstrates initiative and proactively seeks solutions to problems.
  • Current and active Secret or Top Secret Clearance.
