Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems has an opening for an experienced Sr. Principal Engineer Software - Embedded to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in San Diego, CA.

Candidates will work on software supporting various space, aircraft, and ground systems in all phases of the software development lifecycle including design, development and test. Candidates will work on software systems primarily in C/C++ development, with a focus toward embedded design.

Essential Functions:
  • Develop new software modules supporting cutting-edge technology.
  • Ensure software quality through unit testing.
  • Support software integration and system testing.
  • Assist in system design and troubleshooting.
  • Identify and implement software bug fixes.
  • Update and maintain software documentation.
The selected candidate should thrive in a fast-paced work environment with high expectations, significantly diverse assignments, collaborative/team settings across all levels. Candidate must be comfortable in both development and lab environments, and be able to collaborate closely with system engineers, hardware designers, and integration/test engineers. This position is for a software developer with a primary focus on embedded design.


Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university and 9 years of related experience, or a Master's Degree in STEM and 7 years of related experience, or a PhD in STEM and 4 years of related experience
  • Experience developing software C or C++, object oriented programming, embedded software design methods, and formal software life cycle development methodologies - requirements through test
  • Experience in Agile development methodologies
  • An active in-scope DoD Top Secret clearance and the ability to obtain and maintain program access
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or Electrical Engineering.
  • Experience developing with the VxWorks Real Time Operating System.
  • Excellent 2-way communication skills (upward and downward).
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal skills, and the ability to interface with all levels of employees and management.
  • Availability to support occasional travel.
  • Experience with software test automation.
