Northrop Grumman Space Systems has an opportunity for a Quality Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in Colorado Springs CO. Join the Space Surveillance and Environmental Intelligence (SS&EI) Operating Unit and work with our team of experts ensuring the development and delivery of systems that keep our world safe.

As a key program team member, the Quality Engineer will engage with all levels of the organization and work collaboratively with functional areas including Program Management, Contracts, Business Management, and Systems Engineering, The Quality Engineer will be an advocate for quality, exercise objective judgment, drive improvements in quality processes, products, and services. .

Roles and Responsibilities:

The Quality Engineer will ensure compliance with all quality/mission assurance related contractual requirements, company policies, and sector/division procedures, while contributing to the Program's effective process implementation and execution.

Major areas of responsibility include:

  • Supporting the Program Manager to ensure Program effectiveness
  • Collaborating with engineering and manufacturing functions to ensure quality standards are in place
  • Designing and analyzing inspection and test processes, mechanisms and equipment; conducting quality assurance tests and performing statistical analysis of products or materials that do not meet required standards and specifications.
  • Likely working at U.S. military bases for extended periods and potentially traveling out of state for supplier evaluations and acceptance of subcontracted parts
  • Reviewing requirement baselines to assure adequate documentation is in place and conforms to program requirements.
  • Helping coordinate the reviews/inspections of equipment including scheduling and gathering review material.


This requisition may be filled at a higher job grade based on the qualifications listed below.

Qualifications:

This requisition may be filled as either a Principal Quality Engineer or a Sr. Principal Quality Engineer.

Basic Qualifications for a Principle Quality Engineer:

  • Bachelors in Science degree in a STEM discipline and 5 years of experience -OR- a Master's Degree and 3 years experience in supporting mission/quality assurance, systems engineering, hardware engineering supplier/subcontractor quality management or process management.
  • Good understanding of software/hardware development and sustainment
  • Ability to work with all levels of management and the possession of excellent communication skills
  • The ability to work independently and be willing to travel up to 10% of the time.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
  • Active Secret clearance


Basic Qualifications for a Senior Principal Quality Engineer:

  • Bachelors in Science degree in a STEM discipline and 9 years of experience -OR- a Master's Degree and 7 years experience in supporting mission/quality assurance, systems engineering, hardware engineering or supplier/subcontractor quality management or process engineering
  • Good understanding of software/hardware development and sustainment
  • Ability to work with all levels of management and the possession of excellent communication skills
  • The ability to work independently and be willing to travel up to 10% of the time.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
  • Active Secret clearance


Preferred Qualifications:

Candidates with these desired skills will be given preferential consideration:

  • Quality Assurance, Mission Assurance or Process experience in a hardware or software sustainment environment
  • Understanding of Agile and its application to sustainment
  • Good understanding of AS9100 D and/or CMMI quality management system and knowledge of what these standards mean in relation to business
  • Good understanding of quality system and process auditing
  • Good understanding of corrective and preventive action process
