Job Description:

Candidate will be responsible for defining and implementing manufacturing process improvements in the assembly and testing of electro-optical products for the Space and Airborne Systems (SAS) CMC McKinney factory. The individual will capture the process definition in manufacturing planning (assembly/work instructions), translating the Engineering Configuration requirements into efficient and repeatable methods for assembling products. The candidate will perform factory process audits, conduct investigations, solicit observations from operators, and be successful by applying knowledge of production design, fabrication, assembly, process, tooling, and materials. The candidate will utilize process improvement methodologies to identify solutions and project management skills to drive implementation. The individual should have a passion and expectation for hands-on tasks, interacting with shop floor personnel and with engineering and manufacturing groups to ensure plans are created and implemented. The candidate will ideally expand these responsibilities to assist other team members in evaluating future designs for manufacturability and assembly.

Required Skills:
  • Ten or more years of experience and a BS degree or Eight years of experience with a MS degree as below, within a manufacturing environment focused on safety, quality, schedule and cost
  • Demonstrated ability to be organized, detail oriented, self-motivated, dependable, and work well with others in a multi-tasking environment
  • Experience driving Continuous Improvement and Lean Initiatives
  • Demonstrated problem solving skill/ Capable of diagnosing problem root cause with limited upfront information
  • Demonstrated ability to follow rules and regulations. Willing to comply with all pertinent SAS EHS Directives and Instructions and other applicable Program and Site Directives and SAS Company Policies
  • Adaptable and willing to work varying assignments
  • Experience with M/S Office Tools i.e. Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position will need a U.S. Security Clearance within 1 year of start date.

Desired Skills:
  • Detailed, hands-on experience in the application of continuous improvement approaches: Six Sigma, RCA, and/or Lean/Kaizen
  • Strong technical acumen, demonstrated capability to understand complex electrical and mechanical systems in support of process improvement initiatives
  • Outstanding verbal/written communication and teamwork collaboration skills. The position requires an individual that can communicate with all levels of the organization in a professional and thorough manner
  • Experience with new product development/introduction activities and the pro-active management of the process
  • Experience with CAD software (e.g. CREO)
  • Familiarity with SAS or RMS EO products
  • Experience with high-mix, low-volume production
  • Experience with hardware or system design
  • Experience with complex assembly of technical components
  • Knowledge and use of process simulation modeling tools, statistics, and statistical tools (Minitab)
  • Experience with Electro-Optical and Electro-mechanical manufacturing operations and processes (optics potting, soldering, testing, etc…)
  • Familiarity with SAS systems [Visiprise Management (VM), Process Re-invention for Integrating Systems for Manufacturing ( PRISM ) and Product Data Management (PDM)]
  • Adaptable and willing to work varying assignments
  • Demonstrated ability to follow rules and regulations. Willing to comply with all pertinent SAS EHS Directives and Instructions and other applicable Program and Site Directives and SAS Company Policies
Required Education:
Bachelor’s Science degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent technical degree.

Desired Education:
Master’s degree is desired.
