High Performance Computing System Administrator

We are seeking a skilled and passionate system administrator to provide expert technical leadership and support to mission-critical US Federal customers.


This position requires active US Federal Top Secret clearance and is located in Mississippi. Specific duties require US Citizenship.


Location: Stennis Space Center, Mississippi


Primary responsibilities

· Provide pre-installation configuration, on-site integration, administration, and enable customers to get the most out of HPE’s revolutionary HPC systems

· Provide technical guidance regarding system software versions, product lifecycles, new releases, and third-party applications

· Maintain HPC system availability, document site procedures, system diagrams, troubleshooting techniques, and other support documents

· Analytical and organizational skills with the ability to identify issues and drive solutions to resolution

· Software builds and upgrades, patch installation, and hardware repairs as needed

· Work as a key member of an account team in a collaborative environment to investigate and resolve complex problems

· Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact with all levels of client organizations within a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment



Required skills

· Deep working knowledge of Linux operating systems (RHEL or SLES), workload management systems, parallel Lustre file systems, networking and security

· Solid scripting and programming skills (FORTRAN, Perl, Python, C++, etc.)

· Understanding of High Performance Computing (HPC) client demands

· Ability top clearly document complex processes and procedures for knowledge sharing


Education and experience

· Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or related area of study OR

· 8+ years experience in HPC field (large-scale HPC administration and support is preferred)

· Extensive program/project management experience (team or project leadership preferred)

  • Must currently hold—US Federal Top Secret with SCI clearance
  • Extensive knowledge and experience of Linux operating systems (RHEL or SLES), workload management systems, parallel file systems, networking and security
  • Ability to lead and work effectively in a team environment
  • Technical skills to investigate and resolve complex problems
  • Direct experience and demonstrated proficiency with multiple programming and scripting languages (e.g. Perl, Python, C, FORTRAN, etc.) preferred
  • Ability to maintain system software, utilizing debugging tools for problem isolation; will perform software builds, software upgrades, and patch installation as needed
  • Possess the organizational and analytical skills needed to effectively isolate both hardware and software problems and drive solutions through to conclusion
  • Excellent interpersonal, customer relations and problem management skills, with the ability to stay calm and professional under pressure while working to strict deadlines
  • Very good communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Experience with project planning and management, process management, and team or project leadership preferred
  • Able to clearly document processes and procedures with a focus toward mentoring and knowledge sharing
  • Occasional travel for training is required
