The Strategic Assessments & Studies (SAS) Division of the Civil Systems Group (CSG) is responsible for conducting independent assessments and studies to assist NASA, NOAA, and other civil customers in agency-level strategic decision-making on future programs and projects. Typical products and services within SAS's Portfolio & Architecture Assessments organization include advanced architecture studies, independent cost/schedule estimates and risk assessments throughout the development lifecycle, detailed assessments of earned value data to provide programmatic health and status, and the continued development of core capabilities.

Works independently with both internal and external customers and with technical support, as a technical authority, consultant, primary investigator, or project leader. May lead or organize technical efforts or project teams. Interfaces between customers and Aerospace technical and management staff. May mentor less experienced MTS and serve as role model.

Key Functions

Strategic studies work may span across NASA mission directorates including Aeronautics, Exploration, Science, and Space Operations as well as studies related to best practices, standards, Agency infrastructure, and policy. Support the execution and integration of technical analyses products.

Candidate must be able to work effectively both independently and as part of multi-organizational, multi-disciplinary teams.

Candidates should be able to lead and communicate effectively as a key senior member of the organization in a fast paced, dynamic environment, react quickly to changing requirements and schedules, and provide products of consistently high quality.

Candidates must be able to effectively work with multiple projects simultaneously.

Candidate should be able to summarize and present analysis findings to upper management and customer senior leadership.

Qualifications

Required

Bachelor's degree in an appropriate technical discipline from a recognized institution

12 or more years of increasingly responsible professional engineering/scientific experience, including experience in a systems engineering and/or program management environment

Knowledge of NASA missions and technologies, knowledge of NASA development lifecycle, development requirements and guidelines is desired

Experience in systems engineering, risk assessment, cost modeling and analysis, independent cost estimating and tradespace exploration studies

Dependability, good interpersonal skills, and demonstrated ability to work on teams are essential

Excellent verbal and written communications skills are required

Preferred

Experience directly interfacing with customers and delivering comprehensive assessment products is desired

Experience with the Aerospace Engineering Technology Group matrix and Aerospace program offices

Multidisciplinary experience including, spacecraft and launch vehicle concept design and operations

Additional Information

The primary location for performing this work is in NASA facilities on GSFC's campus in Greenbelt, MD. Occasional travel to Aerospace's Crystal City facility is expected.
