The Aerospace Corporation's Engineering and Technology Group (ETG) functions as a corporate pool of engineering skills and services to support the programs.  Within ETG, The Acquisition Risk and Reliability Engineering Department (ARRED) supports its customers through rigorous application of Mission Assurance (MA) practices and principles to ensure mission success for spacecraft, launch systems, and their associated ground systems. These practices include core processes such as requirements, design, manufacturing, integration, and test, and verification and supporting disciplines such as risk, quality, reliability, safety, and configuration management.    


We  are seeking  a  mission assurance  engineer that can apply  digital  engineering  (DE)  modeling  skills to solve a diverse set of challenges and problems facing space system acquisitions. As a member of the ARRED team, you will:  


  • Innovate  by developing and applying  model-based systems engineering  (MBSE)  to Mission Assurance in order to enhance existing capabilities and grow capabilities to new application areas    

  • Assist programs in applying mission assurance principles to the design, development, manufacturing, integration, and testing of space and ground systems  

  • Assist programs in the selection and tailoring of appropriate risk-based Mission Assurance Standards  

  • Assist programs with review and development of mission assurance processes in a model-based environment

  • Help develop program mission assurance plans and perform mission assurance assessments, particularly with a digital engineering focus

  • Work with world-class subject matter experts to apply and further develop MA processes  

  • Work on cross-disciplinary teams to enhance best practices and improve knowledge sharing across the enterprise  

  • Participate on small teams to accomplish systems engineering and/or mission assurance tasks  with emphasis on digital engineering


This position is available as a Senior MTS (L1) or an Engineering Specialist (L2)


Required for Senior MTS (L1)  

  • BS or equivalent degree required in mechanical, electrical, or nuclear engineering, or related field of science or engineering  

  • Typically  5 years of technical engineering experience after a bachelor's degree

  • Fluent in Systems Modeling Language (SysML)

  • Proficiency and ability to model in MBSE tools (e.g., Cameo Systems Modeler, GENESYS, Sparx Enterprise Architect)  

  • Familiarity and experience with space system design, development, and testing  

  • Problem-solving skills, including the ability to identify, organize, prioritize, and ensure timely completion of tasks  

  • Excellent oral communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with customers, staff, and management  

  • Excellent writing skills and a sample of written technical work

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office collaboration tools  

  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance, which is issued by the US government. U.S citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance. ¯  

Additional Requirements for Engineering Specialist  (L2)

  • Ideally 8 years of technical experience after a bachelor's degree  

  • Demonstrated ability to function independently

  • Previous experience modeling space, ground, or launch systems in an MBSE environment

  • Familiarity and experience with MA disciplines including reliability, quality, environments, manufacturing, parts materials & processes, and specialty engineering (such as EMI/EMC, survivability, radiation, and contamination)  and/or demonstrated strong space/ground/launch system skills and experience

  • Current and active Secret or  Top Secret  clearance

Preferred for Engineering Specialist

  • Current and active TS/SCI security clearance, which is issued by the US government. U.S citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance

  • Advanced degree in engineering or systems engineering or systems engineering certification

  • Knowledge of how MBSE fits into digital engineering and how to integrate MBSE into other digital engineering products

  • Prior software coding experience
