The mission of the Global Positioning System (GPS) Operations and Sustainment department within the Enterprise Ground and Operations Division is to provide world-class technical support to the operations and sustainment functions for the world s premier satellite navigation and time-transfer satellite system.   This individual will join a high-performing team with extensive experience throughout the dynamic history of the GPS program and will be responsible for direct operations support for multiple blocks of GPS satellites.   This position is located at Schriever AFB in Colorado Springs, CO.  

The selected candidate must demonstrate effective interpersonal skills to successfully interact with Aerospace peers, internal and external customers, and contractors. The successful candidate should also demonstrate significant personal initiative. Strong oral and written communication skills are required to provide support with the following key functions:

Key Functions

• Provide technical support and leadership in support of GPS mission operations at Schriever AFB including on-orbit anomaly support and end-of-life disposals as required
• Participate as a Technical Advisor or Mission Planner during GPS Launch and Early Orbit Operations (LEO) at a remote location as required
• Investigate technical problems, assemble briefings and reports, and provide technical data to address customer questions or concerns
• Provide general system engineering and integration support to GPS Control Segment and Space Segment test and sustainment at various locations
• Apply mission assurance, relevant standards, policies, and practices for government sustainment of an AF weapon system
• Work with other Aerospace resources to assist in meeting customer needs
• Provide technical support to Operations Control System (OCS) sustainment activities, including system hardware and software upgrades and anomaly resolutions at various locations
• Foster positive relationships, and work well in a fast-paced, multi-organization environment

This position is available as an Aerospace Corporation Project Engineer or Senior Project Engineer

Qualifications

Required

• Bachelor s degree in engineering, computer science, applied mathematics or related technical discipline from a recognized institution
• Current Secret clearance, with the ability to obtain a Top Secret/SCI clearance
• Minimum 6 years of relevant experience
• Experience with satellite command and control systems
• Knowledge of general Systems Engineering principles
• Knowledge of mission software development processes and practices
• Knowledge of satellite command and control hardware and network infrastructures
• Knowledge of satellite command and control ground systems operations
• Demonstrated technical and interpersonal skills with the ability to work independently with military, government, contractor and other Aerospace personnel in a highly dynamic work environment
• Ability to travel domestically and occasionally support extended work hours

Preferred

• Bachelor s degree in engineering, computer science, applied mathematics or related technical discipline from a recognized institution
• Current Secret clearance, with the ability to obtain a Top Secret/SCI clearance
• Typically 8 years of relevant experience
• Experience with satellite command and control systems
• Knowledge of general Systems Engineering principles
• Knowledge of mission software development processes and practices
• Knowledge of satellite command and control hardware and network infrastructures
• Knowledge of satellite command and control ground systems operations
• Demonstrated technical and interpersonal skills with the ability to work independently with military, government, contractor and other Aerospace personnel in a highly dynamic work environment
• Ability to travel domestically and occasionally support extended work hours

Required for Senior Project Engineer

• Minimum 12 years of relevant experience in GPS satellite systems, GPS operations, GPS control segment
• Strong knowledge of general Systems Engineering principles
• Experience with mission software development processes and practices
• Comprehensive knowledge of satellite command and control hardware and network infrastructures
