Defense Contractor to Establish Office in Linton, Indiana

Workers with security clearance could obtain jobs through URS Corporation expansion

Linton, Indiana Mayor Patti Jones and Mayor-elect John Wilkes announced recently that defense contractor URS Corporation has agreed to lease office space in the town, a sign that the company could soon add new defense and intelligence jobs.

According to the Greene County Daily World, Jones and Wilkes attributed the decision by URS to lease the space in Linton to a recently awarded multi-million dollar contract from the Department of Defense.

The officials said in the announcement that the company's new facility will feature between 50 and 150 workers, with some of them expected to be new hires from the area.

"It"s a very good thing for our area," Jones said during the announcement. "It's not just good for the city of Linton; it's a good thing for the county. It allows us to gain opportunities in many ways."

URS Corporation is a major contractor at the nearby Naval Surface Weapons Center, according to the news source.

The new defense jobs expected to be created under the contract will reportedly involve providing products and technology to the Department of Defense. As such, these workers will likely need to have security clearance, a qualification of many defense and intelligence jobs with contractors or within government agencies.
