A unit of DRS Defense Solutions won a $2.9 million contract to produce equipment for the U.S. Navy, according to DefPro.com.

The Intelligence, Communications and Avionics Solutions business unit won the contract to manufacture Gigabit Ethernet Multiplex System equipment by the Naval Surface Warfare Center in Dahlgren, Virginia. This most recent contract builds on a prior award for $19.1 million contract to produce shipsets by the Dahlgren facility. The new contract aims to create several components for the U.S. Navy.

"This follow-on award is another indication of the long-standing, positive relationship between the U.S. Navy and DRS ICAS," communications vice president Hans DeViso with DRS ICAS said. "We are committed to providing high-quality products and services to the Navy."

The contract is likely to create defense jobs and intelligence jobs for people who hold security clearance.

The company's upstate New York facility in Buffalo will see the work assembled.
