Top secret jobs are some of the most important jobs in the USA. The Department of Defense (DOD) issues three levels of classified security clearance: Confidential, Secret and Top Secret. Top Secret is the highest level and the most difficult to obtain and keep. A top secret security clearance is not permanent and must be secured every five years. Top secret security clearance allows access to documents and other materials that might compromise national security.
To obtain a top secret clearance, you first must complete the standard form 68 which can be obtained at any facility offering a top secret job. Next, you may be required to attend a face-to-face interview. A response to your application can take from 3 months to 2 years. While the process of obtaining a top secret clearance can be lengthy, it can open doors for jobs at the FBI, CIA, NSA, DOD, and Homeland Security.
